Our lovely homes are not islands unto themselves. We share "common areas" such as the walkways, greenery, pool and spas. The homes in each building are also physically connected. As such, we impact one another, and organization and order is needed.
A homeowners association (HOA) is a nonprofit organization that is set up to help run, manage, and maintain a collective of homes.
Community homeowners who belong to an HOA pay annual or monthly dues which the HOA uses to maintain shared spaces and carry out other association duties like rule enforcement, meeting management, and financial planning.
Homeowners who are willing to help run the HOA are elected to the board, and volunteer their time on behalf of all community homeowners. The board ensures that homes and communal areas are beautiful and well-maintained, and that our finances are in good order.
The HOA board hires a management company, such as FirstService Residential, to help ensure the responsibilities of the association are carried out according to the rules, regulations, governing documents, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
Homeowners and renters must abide by the association's rules and regulations. One example of this is homeowners cannot alter the exterior of their property however they want. They have to abide by architectural standards that dictate design schemes, paint colors, and so on. The benefit is that the community stays attractive and orderly, and property values often are higher and more stable.

Board meetings occur on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7pm via Zoom. The digital format makes it easy for you to attend from the comfort of your own home. The agenda includes an open forum time at the beginning for homeowners to share, without prior reservation, for 3-5 minutes per homeowner.
To see the agenda with the Zoom link for the next meeting, check your email for a message from our management company (FSR), or contact them directly for a copy.
To have the board meetings appear in your Google Calendar, find more info here.
For your convenience, our Board Secretary has uploaded the Board Meeting Minutes from previous GOS (Gardens of Sunnyvale) Board Meetings.
We don't have newsletters currently since we have this website, but if you'd like you can view some great newsletters from the past.
Our Board elections take place every year in November. The term length for each of the 5 board seats is two years, so 3 of the seats are open for re-election in even years, and the other 2 are open for re-election in odd years. If you’re interested in serving as a board member, please email our Nominating Committee for more info: nominate@gardens-hoa.com, or contact our management company (FSR), directly.
Committees are a vital part of making our community great! There are only 5 board members, all of whom are volunteers, and they can't do it all themselves. Committees are the perfect way for homeowners to be involved and support our community, and are typically not a big long-term time commitment. They're the perfect way to give back, and make neat things happen! Check out our current committees below, and email the board if you're interesting in joining.
You are now enjoying the fruits of the Website Committee's labor! Jen, Katie, Jenny, and Jim S worked hard to release this site in March 2021, but there is always more great content we can add, so we'd welcome your help.
This Nominating Committee proactively seeks out homeowners who may have interest in serving on the Board.

In 2020 the Fire Committee, composed of 3 board members and 3 volunteers, vetted Sabah International for our annual fire inspection, and got volunteers to assist with the annual inspection.
The Landscape Committee guides decisions about the beautiful landscaping we all enjoy, including the selection and planting of new trees around our neighborhood.
The Welcoming Committee gives new residents a friendly visit and packet of helpful information. This helps bring them up to speed on trash rules, this website, the email list, etc.
Someone has an idea.
They solicit interest from others as well.
They form a committee to put together a proposal for the Board which includes the specifics of the plan and especially the cost.
They present their findings and proposal to the Board, have discussion, and the Board votes on it.
"Signage Committee" - to consider the state of our current signs, rules about residents posting their own signs, and the potential benefit of adding some new signs for building numbers.
"Handbook Update Committee" - to update the wonderful wealth of knowledge in the current handbook.
